TTLA cooperates with ERSO for development of FPDs

Taiwan TFT-LCD Association (TTLA) will cooperate with the government-funded Electronics Research & Service Organizations (ERSO) for R&D on next-generation FPDs. H.B. Chen, chairman of TTLA and president of AU Optronics Corp., says the alliance is intended to upgrade the competitiveness of Taiwan's FPD industry in the world market.

According to Chen, ERSO will provide the R&D team and laboratories. In addition, seven among TTLA's member companies, which include AU Optronics, Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp., Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd, Toppoly Optoelectronics Corp. and Prime View Int. Co. Ltd will form a technical committee.

Jyuo-Min Shyu, general director of ERSO, claims that the government invested a total of NT$4 billion ($114.38 million at $1:NT$34.97) in the development of FPDs. He adds, "We will focus on the manufacturing of low-temperature LTPS TFT-LCD panels."
