The LM3485 switching controller for power-management applications in displays, notebooks and information infrastructure is designed to enable a switching regulator solution for a wide range of step-down requirements without the need for compensation.

It features an easy-to-use hysteretic pulse frequency modulation switching topology that provides high-efficiency step-down conversion over a wide load range. It also offers a wide input voltage range, ultra-low dropout operation, good hysteretic control and an easily adjustable output. The low quiescent current and minimal component count make it suitable for a range of applications that can power TFT monitors, automotive systems, notebooks, distributed power systems and battery-powered portable products.

Pricing for the LM3485 switching controller, in an MSOP-8, is at 50 cents each in 1,000-unit quantities.
