The company has introduced a next-generation large-capacity rewritable optical disk at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2002. The 120mm(x) disk can store up to 30GB each sideenough to record 3h of high-definition moving digital images.
The 30GB capacity was achieved through land and groove recording method and PRML (partial response maximum likelihood) signal processing to support highly reliable high data density and transfer rates. Support for universal disk format assures compatibility with all PCs and A/V applications.
Other specifications include: user bit rate, 35Mbps; disk thickness, 1.2mm; and numerical aperture of objective lens, 0.85. The disk also has a 0.1mm protective layer.
Also at the CES, Toshiba is introducing a read/write optical head that incorporates 405nm blue laser technology. |
