ON Semiconductor charge controller boasts 0.55A standby current

The NCP1800 is a single-cell Li-ion/-polymer battery charge controller that consumes a standby current of only 0.55A. Designed for use in portable electronic devices, the device has a small footprint, offers reduced parts count and enables extended battery life.

This constant-current/constant-voltage charge controller has conditioning and pre-charge phase feature, which helps protect and prolong the life of a nearly depleted lithium battery by lightly charging it before the onset of full charge. Battery capacity and system safety are also maximized through the better than 1 percent voltage regulation.

Integrated voltage and programmable current features offer design versatility by providing various charging options for different Li-ion battery chemistries and capacities. The chip accommodates either a PNP or PMOS transistor to control battery charging.

The NCP1800 is housed in space-saving Micro8 package.
