Sierra Wireless Inc. has entered into a joint agreement with Microsoft Corp. to develop tighter integration between Sierra's CDMA products and the Pocket PC software platform. Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will share resources to develop highly integrated versions of Microsoft's Pocket PC and Sierra's upcoming Smartphone 2002 software platforms. OEMs integrating 1xRTT CDMA embedded modules into Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002 products will initially benefit from the agreement.

Andrew Harries, Sierra's senior VP of corporate development, says that the agreement will also address the issues concerning connectivity, coverage and speed by developing tightly integrated end-to-end wireless platform for the large enterprise market.
