Based on a low-power, 100MHz Elan SC400 microprocessor, the ELAN104NC single-board computer (SBC) from Arcom Control Systems was designed for use in harsh environments such as transportation, automation and communications.

The unit measures 101.6-by-152.4mm, packs a PC/104 expansion site and features "a full complement of power management utilities," said company marketer Frank Pellitta, suiting it "for tight spaces in areas [with] restricted airflow."

The ELAN104NC packs 8KB of cache, up to 8MB of Flash disk, as much as 128KB of battery-backed SRAM disk and up to 16MB of EDO DRAM. On-board SVGA graphics, 10Base-T Ethernet, three serial ports, a parallel port and keyboard/mouse ports are also provided, along with interfaces for a floppy-disk drive and a hard-disk drive.

The board comes equipped with Datalight's ROM-DOS, and a flash file system is preinstalled. Drivers for Windows CE, QNX and FlashFX are available, as are development kits. Power requirement is 5V only, and operating temperature range is -200C to 500C.

With 4MB of DRAM and 4MB of Flash, the SBC is priced at $409 each in quantities of 100.
