PolicyEdge is claimed to be the industry's first OC-192 services processor. Jointly marketed by Fast-Chip Inc. and UMC, the processor delivers intelligent, high-performance classification, editing and statistics collection from 1Gbps to 10Gbps.

Manufactured using UMC's 0.185m process technology, the device features 700MPOPS (base 100MHz) processing and sits in the data path between a framer and traffic manager. It can sustain 28 classification, editing and statistic operations on minimum-size packets, while maintaining wirespeed. It comes in PL3 for OC-48 or SPI-4 interface for OC-192 applications, supporting industry-standard glueless interfaces to other data path network devices. This single-chip, cascadable device requires no external memories.

Currently offered in both OC-48 and OC-192 versions, PolicyEdge is quoted at $450 (100MHz) 5,000-piece quantities.
