O2Micro Int. Ltd, a supplier of innovative power management and security ICs, has been granted 38 claims under U.S. patent number 6,326,771 for its Buffer Battery Cell Phone technology; a continuation of the Buffer Battery Power Supply System (patent number 6,246,215) issued June 2001.

According to the company, the Buffer Battery Cell Phone methodology enables faster charging of the cellular phone while it is being operated. The circuit guarantees that all power not utilized by the active system is used to charge the battery, providing faster battery charging times and maximum battery charge capacity. In addition, the measurement and control circuitry in the IC ensures that battery power and current limits are not exceeded, thus assuring maximum battery safety.
