Axon Technologies Corp. and Micron Technology Inc. have entered into a non-exclusive commercial license agreement for Axon's patented programmable metallization cell (PMC) technology. The license allows Micron to use Axon's technology for development and manufacture of future IC devices.

"We are looking at the potential of PMC technology. Although the use of this technology in future products is as yet undefined, we find the technology interesting," said Terry Gilton, Micron R&D manager overseeing Micron's PMC-related efforts.

Axon's patented PMC technology is based on an electrochemical effect in solid electrolytes. "PMC has unique low-voltage and low-energy operational characteristics and could be compatible with CMOS processes," said Michael Kozicki, inventor of PMC, Axon.
