Rohm Electronics has launched a line of small, high-capacitance tantalum capacitors. Designed for portable electronic equipment, the low-impedance TC series is suitable for low-voltage digital circuits in cellular telephones.

Offered in A- and P-case sizes, the external dimensions of the A case are 3.2(L)-by-1.6(W)-by-1.6(H)mm. The P-case size measures 2(L)-by-1.25(W)-by-1.2(H)mm. The devices offer a capacitance value range of 15F to 475F and rated voltages from 4Vdc to 20Vdc. The capacitance tolerances are 110 percent and 120 percent. The operating temperature range is -550C to 1250C.

The TC capacitors are designed to withstand a force of 5N with no mechanical damage, and for the capacitance to remain in tolerance after application of a force that causes the capacitor to bend by 1mm for 5s, said the company.

External electrodes are coated with eutectic solder, which makes the capacitors ideal for solder mounting, and the impedance of the capacitors doesn't increase after soldering because of the heat resistance of the silver paste, the company said.

The caps are offered on tape-and-reel for automated assembly lines. Samples are available. Prices start at 12 cents each in quantities of 1,000. Lead time is eight to 12 weeks.
