Xicor Inc. has teamed up with Motorola to provide RF power amplifier (PA) reference platforms for GSM, EDGE and W-CDMA cellular base station applications. The reference platforms are expected to incorporate Xicor's "Smart Biasing" ICs for RF PA applications. As part of this collaboration, Motorola will provide its RF LDMOS power transistors along with the company's advanced RF applications expertise.

The "Smart Bias" reference design is expected to be available in February 2002. Both Motorola and Xicor will market and sell the reference platforms worldwide.

"Our objective is to continue our position in RF power amplifier component solutions. The Xicor RF PA bias ICs provide an innovative solution for autobiasing and calibration and will significantly reduce the cost of RF PA design and manufacturing for our customers," said Lynelle McKay, director of operations at Motorola's Wireless Infrastructure Systems Division. "This collaboration and the offering of the "Smart Bias" reference design provides a turnkey solution that meets the performance requirements of next generation cellular basestations."
