Optical components supplier Stratos Lightwave Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Tsunami Optics Inc., a developer and manufacturer of fiber-optic components and modules. Under the terms of the agreement, Tsunami will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Stratos. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.

Tsunami's products include coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) modules, micro-lithographic optics and micro-optic components suitable. The products are suitable in datacom and telecom networks including hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks, passive optical networks (PONs), storage area networks (SANs), video networks and wireless networks.

"The strategic addition of Tsunami's products and intellectual property to the Stratos family provides us with components that enable low-cost CWDM solutions that integrate with our existing transceiver product lines," said Jim McGinley, president and CEO of Stratos. "Tsunami's CWDM technology adds additional core competencies to the Stratos offerings for the metro access market. With Tsunami, we offer our customers the broadest product line with higher efficiencies and reliabilities that address the current and future needs of our customers."
