Derived from the Athlon processor, the 1.3GHz AMD Duron processor is optimized for the Windows XP Home and Professional OS and supports DDR memory. The processor is said to offer best-in-class performance on digital photo, audio and Internet applications.

The AMD Duron processor features 192KB of total on-chip cache, high-speed 200MHz FSB, superscalar FPU with 3DNow! Professional technology, and hardware data pre-fetch.

"In tandem, AMD Duron processor-based systems with DDR memory can offer cost-conscious purchasers better performing, more cost-effective PCs than widely available competitive products," said Ed Ellett, VP of Marketing for AMD's Computation Products Group. The company claims that more than 100 motherboard solutions are available on the market supporting the AMD Duron processor and DDR memory including offerings by Asus, Gigabyte and MSI.

The 1.3GHz AMD Duron processor is priced at $118 in 1,000-unit quantities.
