Designed for brightness control of incandescent lamps or transformer-coupled low-voltage halogen lamps, the LS7232NT lamp dimmer from LSI Computer Systems Inc. features an optical user interface that allows for smooth variation of the lamp intensity without the need to physically touch a sensor or mechanical switch.

The brightness is controlled by controlling the firing angle of a triac in series with the lamp and triggered by the LS7232NT. A mechanical switch interface for dimming control that can be used for a remote touch plate is also provided.

The device has seven pin-selectable modes of operation including full-range dimming with/without memory, with/without delayed off and on-off switching with/without delayed off. It incorporates circuitry that allows safe control of inductive loads such as those in transformer-coupled low-voltage halogen lamps.

Operating on 5V power supply and 50Hz/60Hz ac line frequency, the lamp dimmer is offered in 14-pin DIP (LS7232NT) or SOIC (LS232NT-S). It has an operating temperature range of -650C to 1500C.
