AKM audio DSPs suit digital TV apps

Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co. Ltd recently released two audio DSPs, the AK7720A and AK7740, that come with built-in two-channel ADCs and are targeted at car audio, digital TV and A/V applications. The RAM-based DSPs make it possible to create flexible systems whose programming and coefficient settings can be freely changed. Users can realize their own independent algorithms in surround-speaker bass management and decode multi-channel surround such as Dolby PrologicII and SRS Circle Surround.

The AK7720A also integrates two high-performance, 24-bit DACs: one with six built-in channels capable of sampling rates up to 192kHz to satisfy the high sampling-frequency requirements of DVD audio; and the other with two channels for 96kHz sampling. It features dynamic ranges of 98dB in the ADC and 108dB in the DAC, suitable for home theater systems as well as car audio surround systems.

The AK7740 comes with a 4-channel DAC and a built-in delay memory. It also has a five-channel input selector with a real-time processing capacity to handle 512 steps per 1 Fs. Its 72Kb delay memory enables surround systems to be achieved with fewer components. The DSP has dynamic ranges of 98dB in the 24-bit ADC and 97dB in the 24-bit DAC. The combination of digital as well as analog I/O capability enables transfer of CD, MD and digital signal audio data.

The AK7720A is offered in 100-pin LQFP while the AK7740 is packaged in a 48-pin LQFP, which provides board-space savings that meet the size requirements of space-limited products such as car audio systems.
