The company has released a new line of 2.5-inch HDDs that achieve what is claimed to be an industry-best rotation speed of 5,400rpm. The 9.5mm-high drives also feature a seek time of 12ms and an Ultra DMA 100Mbps data transfer rate, and are designed for high-end desktop and laptop PCs.

The HDDs are available in 20GB (MK2019GAX), 30GB (MK3019GAX) and 40GB (MK4019GAX) capacities. All employ fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) motors that combine high-speed performance and low noise.

The faster rotation speed is supported by an increased buffer memory capacity of 16MB that improves the rate of data throughput and PC system operation. The drives also realize an areal density of 34.7Gb/inch?.

The drives operate at 5V and consume 2.5W during R/W, and 0.85W when idle. They have an operating shock resistance of 200Gs and non-operating shock of 800Gs.
