Nippon Pulse Motor has released the PCD-4541 four-axis control chip for two-phase unipolar or bipolar stepper motors. The IC is targeted for integration in applications such as semiconductor manufacturing and inspection equipment, robotics, medical examination, and automatic handling equipment.

With built-in sequence logic for full- and half-step modes, the PCD-4541 produces CW/CCW pulses or excitation signals directly to drive chips.

Aside from axes control, the 100-pin QFP device provides simultaneous start and stop of all axes, speed change on the fly, idling pulse output for start and various limit signals. It is also capable of linear or S-curve acceleration and deceleration.

The PCD-4541 is priced at $18 in quantities of 500 units.
