Claimed to be the industry's first 802.11 dual-band power amplifier, the RFSP5910 single-chip power amplifier (PA) is targeted for NICs that can address both 802.11a and HiperLAN/2 at 5GHz, as well as 802.11b and 802.11g at 2.4GHz.

The IC is suitable for OFDM technology in the two U-NII sub-bands from 5.15GHz to 5.35GHz, and both OFDM and DSSS at 2.4GHz. It provides 20dB and 15dB gain for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, respectively.

"With significant deployments of 802.11a and 802.11g anticipated later this year, it will be increasingly critical for consumer and enterprise WLAN products to operate with any pre-existing access point, whether 802.11a, b, or g," states Randy Beebe, VP-GM Power Amplifier Business Unit.

Designed in a HBT process, the RFSP5910 measures 4-by-4mm and is housed in a 24-pin LPCC package. It requires a 3.3V supply and operates at a temperature range of -30C to 70C.
