The company has launched what is claimed to be the world's first dual-mode RF reference design PCB for GSM and UMTS handsets. This provides manufacturers with a complete RF system for the test and evaluation of 2.5 and 3G mobile phones.

The 48-by-26mm single-side PCB is as big as the PCBs used in current single-mode GSM phones. It is designed around a complete 3G RF chipset using the company's 0.25?m QUBiC4 silicon process technology. It also integrates the 3G Zero IF transmit (UAA3580) and receive (UAA3581) components, and a silicon power amplifier (UAA3592).

The GSM part of the reference design is based on the company's UAA3536 2.5G Near Zero IF transceiver IC that provides the clock frequency to the 2.5 and 3G RF functionality. It also incorporates the CGY2017 GaAs power amplifier module and the UBA1711 power controller IC.
