The S-Gold multimedia baseband IC combines a SmartiDC+ RF chipset, ARM 26 processing core, and a GPRS/E-GRPS class 12 modem to enable handset designers to build multimedia-oriented smartphones operating in the 850MHz and 900MHz, as well as 1.8GHz and 1.9GHz bands.

Launched at the 3GSM World Congress, the chip also includes a powerful cache system, Java extensions, and peripheral interfaces to support applications such as online games, MP3, MIDI, mobile commerce, and streaming video.

The S-Gold is manufactured using a 0.13?m CMOS process, and includes a power-management chip and a multimedia reference design based on Comneon's APOXI application development framework.

APOXI is an object-oriented framework and development environment designed to speed up and enhance mobile application development.

The company also announced the successful testing of Comneon's class 10 GPRS protocol stack software on Infineon's wireless system development platform. The stack is aimed for the rapid design of mobile devices and development of mobile applications. Aside from multi-slot class 10 operation, the stack also supports the use of PBCCH.
