The company has announced the expansion of its I?C/SM bus port extender product line with the release of the 8-bit PCA9554 and PCA9954A, and the 16-bit PCA9555 GPIO port expanders.

The devices offer a smaller footprint over current GPIO devices, making them suitable for use in servers, PCs, mobile phones, telecom switching equipment, and network routers. The GPIO port expanders operate up to 400kHz with a 2.3V supply voltage. The PCA9555 has a current rating of 200mA.

I?C GPIO port expanders deliver system expansion capabilities to designers who have limited I/O availability and require additional bits for ACPI power switches, sensors, pushbuttons, keypads, LEDs, and fans.

All three devices have a configurable I/O structure and contains three address pins to support up to eight different devices on the same bus. The PCA9554A is identical to the PCA9554 except for the fixed I?C address, allowing up to 16 devices on the same bus (eight PCA9554A and eight in any combination of the PCA9554 and PCA9555).

The PCA9554 and PCA9554A offered in 16- and 24-pin SO, SSOP, and TSSOP housingsin tube or tape-and-reel.
