TriQuint HPA targets broadband wireless, VSAT apps

With an operating frequency of 27GHz to 32GHz, the TGA4501 high power amplifier (HPA) IC is designed for use in VSAT ground terminals and millimeter-wave digital radio applications that require high linear power.

The TGA4501 is fabricated using the company's 0.25?m gate length, power pHEMT process that is claimed to produce the same performance normally associated with 0.15?m gate length devices.

The chip has a four-stage gain architecture that features an output gain of 20dB (typ.) and an output power of 34.5dBm (typ.). The HPA also has a typical third-order-intercept point output of 40dBm and is rated for operation at 6V and 2.1A.

Measuring 4.29-by-3.02-by-0.05mm, the TGA4501 features a bond pad and metallized backside that are both gold-plated for compatibility with eutectic alloy attachment methods, as well as with thermocompression and thermosonic wirebonding.

The TGA4501 is priced at $99 each in quantities of 10,000.
