FCI Electronics has expanded its BGA, high-speed MEG-Array board-to-board connector system to include an 81-position version. Configured in a 9-by-9-position, 4mm stack height system, the product meets requirements of the 12-channel parallel fiber-optic module MSA developed by Agilent Technologies, W.L. Gore and Associates, and Mitel Semiconductor, FCI said.

Designed for telecommunications and data communications applications such as desktop-computer processors, memory, mobile computing, and optics, the MEG-Array board-to-board connector system meets Telcordia GR-1217-Core and Nortel NPS25298-2 specifications.

In accordance with the IPC-SM-785 specification, connector testing demonstrates more than a 20 years' life span at the PCB-to-connector BGA interface, according to the company.

The MEG-Array's electrical performance above 5GHz, 10Gbps is confirmed in the 300-pin SFF MSA for very short-reach transceiver applications, said the company. The connector system is specified to OC-192 and OC-768 MSAs.

In quantities of 25,000, the plug is priced at $7.86 each and the receptacle at $8.17. Delivery is four to six weeks.
