Xtera DWDM system accommodates 240 10Gbps channels

Using proprietary Wide Reach Raman technology, the Nu-Wave DWDM system is claimed to support up to 240 10Gbps channels over a distance of up to 1,500km without electrical regeneration, and is aimed at lowering the cost of bandwidth capacity used by long-distance carriers.

"It is our objective to enable carriers to reduce their CapEx budgets even further. Not only is the Nu-Wave far less expensive than any other DWDM system, it is designed to give carriers access to significantly more markets than is possible with any other transport system," said Jon Bayless, Xtera Chairman and CEO.

The Wide Reach technology also allows amplification over a continuous 100nm spectrum. The system incorporates high-density 10Gbps transparent transponders that support both OC-192/STM-64 and OC-48/STM-16 client-side signals.

The system also incorporates a DWDM terminal with 2.4Tbps data rate in three 2.13-by-0.3m bays and extends fiber-type support according to the ITU-T G.652, G.653, and G.655 standards.
