Fairchild Semiconductor International has launched its first LVDS crosspoint switcha nonblocking, fully differential two-port device that can be configured as a 2:1 multiplexer, 1:2 demultiplexer, 2:2 repeater or 1:2 signal splitter. Applications for the FIN1022 include Sonet/SDH equipment, wireless basestations, and routers.

The switch's common-mode range is said to be wide enough for designers to interface multiple I/O standards to LVDS levels. It supports direct interfacing to low-voltage positive emitter-coupled logic, SSTL-2 and high-speed transceiver logic in addition to LVDS.

It supports throughput of more than 800Mbps, which enables operation in OC-3/STM-1 (STS-3) and OC-12/STM-4 (STS-12) environments, the company said.

The switch's 1.6ns maximum propagation delay, low random and deterministic jitter, and typical 35ps channel-to-channel skew help achieve higher bandwidth capacity.

The switch will be available this month in 16-lead TSSOP and SOIC packages, priced from $4.50 in 1,000-piece lots.
