The LM2936HV LDO regulator supports continuous input voltages of up to 60V with a 50mA (5V) output, enabling the device to meet the 42V standard being adopted by automakers. The standard enables carmakers to replace mechanical and hydraulic systems with electrical systems to create cars that are lighter, more reliable, and produce fewer emissions.

The LDO regulator is designed for automotive applications such as integrated starter/alternator, electronic "drive-by-wire" steering, and advanced braking. It features a typical quiescent current of 9?A, making the LM2936HV suitable for sleep mode and other "keep alive" applications that demand constant power without placing excessive drain on the battery.

Packaged in an SOIC housing, the LM2936HV is operates over the temperature range of -40C to 125C, and features an internal short circuit limit, as well as an internal thermal shutdown protection.

The LM2936 is priced at 86 cents each in quantities of 1,000.
