Bourns offer lead-free resettable fuses

Bourns has announced that it will be offering its Multifuse polymeric PTC battery strap devices in lead-free packaging, as a response to the call for more environment-friendly PTC devices.

Conventional battery strap products were manufactured using lead-based solder to attach the lead of the device to the PTC chip. The Multifuse product line has succeeded in replacing this solder with a lead-free product without affecting the performance or quality of the device.

"We are pleased to announce we can offer our customers a lead-free product that not only helps them meet environmental requirements, but offers them the lowest available resistance at a most competitive price," said John Kelly, Battery Product Line Manager for the Multifuse product line.

Recently, the US EPA, European Commission, and Japanese Ministry of trade put forward a proposed recycling law that seeks to eliminate lead-based products and lead emissions from plant.
