The PDA Alliance of Taiwan plans to transform into mobile intelligence alliance (MIA). "It is an inevitable change, as communication services is playing more and more role in the future," said James Hsu, chairman of the Taipei Hsien Computer Manufactures Association.
PDA Alliance was established in 1994 under TSCA. But the new alliance is independent of the association.
According to Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center, a government-sponsored market research institute, the Taiwan is expected to ship as many as 18 million units by 2005, accounting for about 40 percent of worldwide shipments.
MIA is expected to cooperate with OS providers, telecom operators and contain providers. "Especially, digital content is one of the fastest growing segments in the mobile information appliance industry. Taiwan can compete in [mainland] China. We will bridge the gap between content providers and telecom operators, and assist them to explore the [mainland] China market," said MIA.
