EMCORE completes acquisition of Tecstar solar cell division

Semiconductor provider EMCORE Corp. has completed the acquisition of the Applied Solar Division business of Tecstar Inc. As part of the acquisition, EMCORE will continue Tecstar's solar component manufacturing efforts.

EMCORE is currently completing the process of qualifying its advanced solar cells with Tecstar's solar panel processes for LEO and GEO orbits. The company's multi-junction solar cell technology will be used on about 10 satellite launches over the next three years.

According to EMCORE, the acquisition will augment the company's capability to penetrate the satellite communications sector and to provide satellite manufacturers with integrated satellite power solutions that will improve satellite economics.
