Designed for next-generation networking equipment, the MT90871 is claimed to be the industry's first non-blocking TDM chip for switching 8,192-by-8,192 channels of voice/data trafficproviding the same capacity as four conventional 4,096-by-4,096 channel switching chips.

The chip is suitable for use in high-bandwidth TDM switching equipment, including digital loop carriers, media gateways, access concentrators, and wireless basestation controllers.

Based on the company's four-in-one switching matrix, the MT90871 provides 8,192-by-8,192 channels unidirectional switching capacity. It also functions as a dual non-blocking switch with timeslot interchange capacity of 4,096-by-4,096 channels between backplane and local, local to backplane, local to local, and backplane to backplane streams.

The TDM chip also features per stream rate conversion, eliminating the need for external rate conversion devices, and includes dedicated high-impedance control outputs for optional external drivers. It offers data rates of 2, 4, 8, and 16Mbps at an operating core voltage of 1.8V, with 3.3V-tolerant I/Os.

Fabricated via a 0.18?m CMOS process, the chip is housed in a 196-ball LBGA package measuring 16-by-15mm with a 1mm ball pitch.

The MT90871 is priced at $64.97.
