Claimed to be the world's first monolithic delta-sigma rms solution, the LTC1966 rms-to-dc converter features a linearity of 0.02 percent from 50mV to 350mV, and 0.25 percent untrimmed total error between 50Hz to 1kHz.

The device also features trims at 10 and 90 percent, enabling the accuracy of a system using the LTC1966 to be set to better than 0.05 percent across the complete input range. This makes the chip suitable for use in rms digital multimeters, panel meters, and rms ac/dc measurements.

The LTC1966 operates from a single supply of 2.7V to 5V or up to 5V, and draws a supply current of 170?A. The company also claims that the output impedance of the LTC1966 is 10 times higher than other solutions allowing the output filter capacitor to be 1/10th the of conventional values.

The device is offered in an 8-pin MSOP housing, in both commercial and industrial temperature ranges.

Pricing for the LTC1966 starts at $2.95 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
