NEC ATM, POS chip packs four 622Mbps SONET/SDH framer channels

The 5PD98413 ATM and POS PHY chip from NEC integrates four 622Mbps SONET/SDH framer function channels on one chip, enabling faster 3G mobile basestations, DSLAM, and WAN edge equipment.

This chip also features storage of ATM cells and IP packets in SONET/SDH frames and an on-chip clock recovery function. It also has an extensive range of OAM control functions that enable execution of warning, fault, and line quality degradation detection, line quality monitoring, and automatic protection switch.

Fabricated using a 0.25?m CMOS process, the PHY chip also features a 32-bit, 104MHZ bus, 1,024-byte transmit/receive FIFO memory, eight GPIOs, and supports JTAG boundary scan test.

The 575-pin BGA device measures 40-by-40mm and operates from a 2.5V to 3.3V power supply.

The 5PD98413 is priced at $250.
