Tektronix Inc. has announced the OTS Toolkit software upgrade for its Optical Test System (OTS) product family, and is aimed to support rapid design and production of optical network elements, while eliminating repetitive setup time and redundant test runs.

"The new OTS Toolkit provides easy, one-step scripting tools for efficient automated test development, as well as a unique new test methodology that quickly screens out weak components before they are sent through costly long-term test cycles," said Rick King, VP for Optical Business at Tektronix.

The OTS Toolkit includes a script creator, script interpreter, script debugger, script scheduler, and Q-Factor accelerated bit error rate (ABER) software. The software package also contains a Windows 2000-based script creator and interpreter that aids development of complex test scripts, executes the instructions, and supports automated, unattended optical device testing on one, or multiple OTS platforms.

The company claims that the Toolkit's scripting capability eliminates the time consuming repetitive setups required when testing complex multi-channel systems.

The Q-Factor ABER software identifies devices that are likely to fail the standard optical "soak test," a type of burn-in test within 30minmuch faster than the typical soak test of 24h to 48h.

The OTS Toolkit package also includes ready-made sample scripts that can be adapted to common optical test procedures.
