Zarlink Semiconductor has disclosed plans to sell its wafer fabrication facility in Plymouth, U.K., as well as IP and related foundry businesses to companies controlled by X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries AG for about $30 million.

As part of the purchase agreement, the two companies have signed a five-year agreement to ensure continuity of supply for Zarlink products manufactured at Plymouth.

The Plymouth facility consists of two CMOS wafer fabrication lines for producing digital and mixed-signal communications and medical semiconductors. In addition, the plant recently launched an ultra low-power Analog Nonvolatile 0.35?m CMOS process optimized for low voltage and low power applications.
