Xilinx announces alternative solution to producing Virtex-II FPGAs

Xilinx Inc. has announced the availability of the Virtex-II EasyPath FPGA solution that provides an alternative to and reduces the cost of building Virtex-II FPGAs by up to 80 percent. The company also claims that the EasyPath solution delivers an exact performance match to the Virtex-II FPGA in one-fifth the time of other solutions.

The Virtex-II EasyPath devices are standard Virtex-II FPGA circuits that are verified to meet the requirements of a specific customer application. The company has developed a test methodology that uses the reprogrammability of FPGAs to isolate and test all resources required of a specific design, based on data generated by Xilinx's implementation tools.

Xilinx then creates a set of configuration patterns and test vectors that are combined into a custom test program that validates the functionality of all resources required by a specific customer design. This results in an application specific device that functions and performs identically to an FPGA for the specific application.

The time to manufacture production parts are reduced because a custom test program is made new custom silicon or a new verification process.

The Virtex-II EasyPath solutions are available today for the four largest devices in the Virtex-II family. The EasyPath solution for the XC2V3000 is priced at <$200 for quantities of 15,000 units.

Xilinx Inc. is an exhibitor at this year's International IC ? China Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China), which will be held in Shanghai on April 8 and 9, Beijing on April 11 and 12, and Shenzhen on April 15 and 16. IIC-China is organized by eMedia Asia Ltd, a Global Sources and CMP Media joint venture.
