Oki expands 5PLAT platform for SoC design

Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd has expanded its 5PLAT platform with the release of three new cores5PLAT-7B, 5PLAT-7D, and 5PLAT-92aimed at accelerating the development times of SoC LSIs, while reducing overall system costs.

"The 5PLAT is based on Oki Electric's Silicon Platform Architecture (SPA) concept and is widely recognized as a comprehensive platform-based design tool that can halve the time about 50 percent in case taken to develop SoC LSIs using conventional design tools, ensuring our customers' final chip designs meet their requirements," said Shinji Furuno, GM of Platform Development in LSI division at Oki Electric.

"By adding this new range of core products and prototyping boards, we aim to offer our customers greater flexibility respond to customers' needs more quickly," he continued.

The 5PLAT-7B core is a low-end platform equipped with ARM's ATM7TDMI without cache. The core is designed for use in Bluetooth baseband controllers, PHS baseband controllers, low-end printers, and digital appliance controllers.

Positioned as the middle-level platform, the 5PLAT-7D is also equipped with the ARM7TDMI but with cache. It is suited for use in applications such as VoIP and digital A/V equipment, information appliances for automobiles, printers, and PC peripherals.

The 5PLAT-92 is the high-end platform equipped with an ARM920T with cache, and is designed to be used in PDAs, smart phones, and STBs.

All three cores are also offered in prototyping boards for debugging and evaluation purposes. The boards are implemented with APB, BRG, UART, PIO as standard peripherals, and with Flash, SRAM, and SDRAM as external memories. Customers can also add customized circuits using FPGAs and an extended board on the prototyping board.
