Samsung smart card IC meets EMV standard

Samsung Electronics has announced the availability of smart card ICs targeted for the lower capacity requirements of the EMV standard for credit cards. The chip integrates an 8-bit CPU, 32KB of ROM, 784B of RAM, and is available with EEPROM densities of 2KB (S3C8982) and 4KB (S3C8984).

The EMV standard was spearheaded by Europay, MasterCard, and Visa to have single standard for financial transactions using for smart card-based credit cards.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is an exhibitor at the 7th annual International IC ? China Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China), which is currently being staged in Shanghai, and is co-located with the Embedded Systems Conferences ? China (ESC-China) and Electronic Design Automation & Test Expo (EDA&T). The second leg of the conferences will take place in Beijing on April 11 and 12, while the last leg will be held in Shenzhen on April 15 and 16. IIC-China, ESC-China and EDA&T are eeEvents organized by eMedia Asia Ltd, a Global Sources and CMP Media joint venture.
