Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has selected ON Semiconductor's CS5322 controller IC to power its latest PCs. The chip belongs to the CS53xx family of multiphase power-management ICs that are designed to control the power demands of next-generation PC microprocessors.

The CS5322 is a two-phase buck controller that includes four on-board gate drivers, programmable Vout DACs, power fault detection and recovery systems, current sense amplifiers, 3.3V (1mA) references, and adjustable output voltage positioning. The controller can be used to create a low voltage (1.1V to 5V), high-current power supply for graphics cards, communication equipment or computer memory. It also features proprietary V2 control architecture, which enables ultra-fast dynamic current response and reduces the need for bulk capacitors on the VRM or motherboard.

"The Samsung order reflects the confidence of our longstanding customer in achieving our goal?to be the benchmark for the semiconductor industry,'' said Henry Leung, ON Semiconductor president of Asia Pacific.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is an exhibitor at the 7th annual International IC ? China Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China), whose second part will open in Beijing on April 11. The initial leg of IIC-China was held in Shanghai from April 8 to 9, while the final leg will be staged in Shenzhen on April 15 and 16. IIC-China is organized by eMedia Asia Ltd, a Global Sources and CMP Media joint venture.
