Targeted for 40Gbps SFF and SFP parallel modules, the MS1435 transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and MS1436 VCSEL driver from MathStar Inc. operate at 3.36Gbps with a 3.3V supply, and are suitable for VSR links, optical backplanes, and box-to-box and chassis-to-chassis applications.

A member of the company's Gemini line of products, the 12-channel TIA consumes 75mW per channel, while providing an inter-channel isolation of 0.5dB and a jitter of <80ps.

The 3.8-by-2.6mm device also has an input dynamic range of 85A to 2mA and a programmable loss of signal threshold level of 35A to 205mA.

The MS1436 is a 12-channel, 850nm VCSEL driver with an interface that supports both analog and serial programming. This allows users to program the modulation current from 1mA to 7mA and the bias current from 0.5mA to 4mA while accepting a differential input voltage between 200mVpp and 800mVpp.

The driver has an internal temperature monitor and reporting function for loading of the A/D output remote register, enabling compensation for variations of VSCEL characteristics over temperature and lifetime.

It is also a part of the Gemini family and also features fault detect and IMON test port functionality to comply with Laser Safety issues.

The MS1435 TIA is priced at $45, while the MS1436 VCSEL driver is quoted at $55, both in quantities of 1,000.
