SanDisk Corp. has finalized an agreement with Toshiba Corp., relocating their joint Flash memory venture, named FlashVision, from the Dominion Semiconductor facility in Manassas, Virginia, to Toshiba's semiconductor plant at Yokkaichi, Japan. The companies expect to start production at FlashVision in the third quarter of this year while production ramp up is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2003.

The consolidation of manufacturing operations at Yokkaichi, Japan, is anticipated to streamline the transfer of new technologies and thereby accelerate the volume production of NAND/MLC (multi-level cell) as well as the 0.135m NAND Flash memory technologies.

Sanjay Mehrotra, SanDisk's COO and EVP, said, "we believe that with this manufacturing consolidation, both companies can achieve a more competitive cost per wafer, begin to increase production capacity and accelerate the time to market for volume production of our next generation 0.135m NAND Flash."
