Sintek invests $342M for 5G color-filter plants

In a bid to become the second largest color filter supplier in the world, Sintek Photronic Corp. has invested $342.86 million to establish two 5G color-filter production facilities in Lungtam and Tainan, Taiwan. Joe Wu, associate VP, said, "Construction of Lungtam plant will begin at the end of this year."

The company has invested $102.86 million in building up its 4G color-filter line. Installation of product equipment began this month, while mass production is set to start in October 2002. Monthly capacity is expected to reach 75,000 units of 680-by-880mm or 730-by-920mm glass substrates.

Sintek's existing 3.5G color-filter production line produces a monthly capacity of 65,000 620-by-750mm glass substrates. The products are designed for use in 15-inch and 17-inch color TFT-LCD panels.
