Bay network processor sustains 16Gbps line rate

Designed with a deterministic pipeline architecture, the Montego programmable packet processor from Bay Microsystems Inc. is claimed to process 31.24 million packets per second, and sustain a line rate of up to 16Gbps for all traffic patterns and conditions across access, metro, and long-haul applications.

A member of the company's Internetworking Processor product line, the Montego integrates a deterministic processor engine, OC-192C/10G network processor and traffic manager into a 1,600-pin BGA flip-chip package.

The device also features the company's AnyMapping capability to support the line rate transformation and forwarding of legacy protocols such as SONET, ATM, Ethernet, IPv4, and Frame Relay, as well as emerging protocols such as MPLS and IPv6.

The 166MHz Montego is priced <$1,200 each in volume quantities.
