Flextronics Semiconductor, a provider of ASIC products and IC designs, has partnered with broadband company IPWireless to develop and manufacture IPWireless SoC. IPWireless is expected to leverage the SoC design created with Flextronics to deliver PCMCIA broadband modem cards for laptops and PDAs.

The IPWireless SoC design is also expected to enable lower-priced external modems and broadband gateways. Currently, the IPWireless standards-based ASIC solution is utilized in external pocket-sized modems. Based on the UMTS TD-CDMA (TDD) standard, the IPWireless advanced 3G broadband enables global operators to deliver through a single network wireless broadband, with services ranging all the way from true mobile broadband to an industrial-strength small-office connectivity solution.

"We are pleased to work with IPWireless in developing its breakthrough SoC to ultimately allow anyone around the world to enjoy true broadband access wherever they roam," stated Ron Snyder, president, Flextronics.
