At the 7th annual International IC ? IC Conference and Exhibition (IIC-China), Sunplus Technology Co. Ltd disclosed plans to transfer its business center from Taiwan to mainland China. The company will move its test facility to Shanghai.

Yang Mingjian, marketing manager, says Sunplus has to consider many ways to reduce operation costs. Currently, the company supplies 6-inch wafers for use in consumer chips and 8-inch wafers for multimedia chips, such as VCDs and DVDs. These wafers are produced by Taiwan foundries UMC and TSMC. Sunplus is now evaluating a couple of mainland fabrications for the production of its chips, he added.

According to Yang, the company's revenue in the China market accounts to 30 percent of its total revenue. He estimated that the figure will increase by 40 percent to 50 percent in the future.

In addition, Sunplus has demonstrated an interactive game player at the IIC-China. The player consists of a small device embedded infrared detector and a specific chip integrated with MPU, MCU and PPU. The company claims designers can develop other interactive sports game by using this chip.

IIC-China is co-located with the Embedded Systems Conferences ? China (ESC-China). These events are organized by eMedia Asia Ltd, a Global Sources and CMP Media joint venture.
