Optelecom SDI fiber transmission modules conform to SMPTE standards

Optelecom Inc. has announced the release of its SDI fiber transmission modules that accept serial digital data conforming to the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 259M, 294M, and 305M standards at data rates of up to 360Mbps.

The 9815T transmitter, 9815R receiver, and 9815TR transceiver are used for in-studio and offsite use for transmission of SDI signals from digital video processors and digital recorders.

Fiber SDI transmission is claimed to eliminate noise, ground loops and distance limitations of SDI transmission via coax cable.

The 9815T and 9815R utilize one fiber, while the 9815TR uses two fibers for bidirectional communications. The transmitters are provided with BNC loop-thru connections, while the receivers feature dual outputs.

The company is offering modules that use multimode fiber capable of up to 4km transmission range, and a version that uses single-mode fiber which offers a transmission range of up to 71km.
