Sarnoff Corp. has announced the availability of the MPEG-2 MP@ML and MP@HL A/V decoder, MPEG-2 encoder, and MPEG-4 encoder/decoder IP cores that allows product designers and manufacturers to accelerate the launch of MPEG-1, 2, and 4 products.

The silicon-ready IP cores are claimed to deliver high quality pictures with decreased storage requirements in both standard and High Definition formats.

The MPEG-2 MP@ML and MP@HL decoder solution is claimed by the company to produce a high definition video quality and supports all ATSC input video formats. It requires a 4MB 81MHz external SDRAM and offers a bit-rate of 38.7MBps for cable applications.

The MPEG-4 encoder/decoder solution has an IBP of 30 frames per second and SIF resolution to 2Mbps. It performs full-pixel motion estimation, selective-bit allocation, and window-of-interest coding.

The company is also offering complementary communication and mixed signal technologies as IP cores, including an 8-VSB/256 QAM demodulator and an NTSC/PAL encoder.

"These new cores are great news for everyone designing for the PVR, Interactive STB, and DVD recordable markets," said Frank Pantuso, Sarnoff SVP.
