Intel ships Pentium 4s for laptops

Intel Corp. has introduced the Mobile Pentium 4 Processor-Mrunning at 1.4GHz, 1,5GHz, and 1.8GHzand are expected to usher at least 30 new laptops for both consumer and business users.

The processor supports the company's SpeedStep technology, which provides a balance of performance and low-power operation to help extend the laptops battery life.

Maximum performance is provided when multitasking between processor-intensive applications, such as playing wireless game or downloading videos from the Internet. Processor speed and power consumption is automatically reduced when performing simpler tasks such as writing e-mails.

Several laptops using the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M include built-in wireless capabilities such as 802.11b and Bluetooth radios, allowing users to be connected to the Internet wirelessly.

Laptops based on the mobile processor include models from Acer, Compaq, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Sony, Toshiba, and Winbook.

The Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M family is also available at speeds at 1.6GHz and 1.7GHz. The 1.8GHz, 1.5GHz and 1.4GHz models are priced at $637, $268, and $198, respectively.
