Taiwan National Science Council approves Si-Soft project

The National Science Council of Taiwan has approved the proposed Si-Soft project which will be handled by the SoC National Technology Science-Technology Office in a bid to improve Taiwan's silicon production and IC design industry.

As part of the project, the Taiwan government will invest $218.39 million in the next three years. In addition, an outlay of $80.45 million will be devoted to locally-invested and foreign/local joint-venture IC design houses for their R&D expenses.

Chun-Yen Chang, director of the office, says that about 100 local and foreign companies, which include Intel, Cisco, Atmel, Cadence, TSMC and Macronix Int., have expressed their intention in attending the seminar on Si-Soft project.
