Analog Devices Inc. has expanded its line of 2.7V RS-232 transceivers for portable application with the introduction of the ADM3310E and ADM3315E.

The ADM3310E is a three-driver, five-receiver serial port transceiver, while the ADM3315E has three drivers and three receivers. Both meet the EIA-232 standards and operate from a single power supply as low as 2.7V.

Both also feature an on-board, charge pump voltage tripler and voltage inverter for internally generating positive and negative supplies from the power supplyeliminating the need for dual power suppliesand 115 kV ESD protection on all I/O lines.

In shutdown mode, two receivers in the ADM3310E remain active, while one receiver remains active in the ADM3315E. Power consumption is minimized for each part via the Green Idle Mode, which allows the charge pump oscillator to gate on and off, maintaining an output voltage of 16V, regardless of the load conditions.

The ADM3310E and ADM3315E are suited for use in PDAs, mobile phone handset data cables, modems, and notebook PC peripherals.

Both devices are available in either a 28-lead TSSOP or a 32-lead, 5-by-5mm LFCSP housing. Pricing starts at $1.20 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
