Alps Bluetooth modules are 85 percent smaller

The UGXZ series of Bluetooth modules from Alps Electric Co. Ltd boasts of an 85 percent smaller size than the company's previous offerings. They are suitable for use in mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras, and other portable devices.

The modules integrate a compact baseband IC, as well as a new mounting method for the memory, to achieve the compact design. The UGXZ1 Class 1 type measures 10-by-10-by1.9mm, while the UGXZ2 Class 2 module measures 10-by-13.5-by-2mm.

The company also claims that they have reduced current consumption from 120mA to 60mA and product weight from 1.9g to 0.5g.

Both conform to the Bluetooth 1.1 specification, supporting a data rate of up to 723Kbps. They also have a receiver sensitivity of -82dBm (typ.), temperature operating range from -250C to 750C, and are compatible with UART, USB, and PCM interfaces.

The UGXZ1 operates from a 2.8V source and produces a maximum output of 4dBm, while the UGXZ2 operates produces 20dBm (max.) from a 3.3V input.

The Bluetooth modules are priced starting at $78.79 each.
